Abstract: Three species of the five recognized in the genus Schizophyllum were identified in the Mexican Republic: Schizophyllum commune, S. fasciatum, and S. umbrinum. A key of the studied species is included. The geographical distribution, and some data on the ecological relations according to the types of vegetation are indicated for these species. Several aspects on the ethnomycological, biological and economic importance of the genus, are pointed out.
