Abstract: The abundance of lignicolous marine micromycetes from Barra de Navidad coastal lagoon, State of Jalisco, Mexico, was investigated. Test panels of Avicennia germinans, Pinus sylvestris and Rhizophora mangle were submerged in the intertidal region for five weeks. After the submersion time the test panels were kept in clean sterile plastic bags and returned to the laboratory, where they were rinsed with sterile sea water and incubated during 12 months at 25 degree C in sterile plastic boxes. The total number of fungal observations were 156 from 94 of 141 wood pieces examined. The most abundant fungus was Halosphaeria quadricornuta followed by Zalerion varium, Lulworthia spp., L. grandispora and Humicola alopallonella. Zalerion varium is a new record for Mexico.
