Abstract: | This review analyzes the literature in search of an answer to the fact that, in general, tapeworms are very difficult to recover. The results and comments of the authors that have searched for Taenia solium, either to define the local prevalence in different countries of Latin America, to assess the efficacy of cestocidal treatment or to evaluate alternatives for controlling cysticercosis, are presented. The difficulties in tapeworm recovery and the possible explanations for this phenomenon are discussed. (C) 2005 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved. |
