Mexican journals of scientific and technological research

Abstract

We present an analysis of the scientific journals included in the Indice de Revistas Mexicanas de Investigacion Cientifica y Tecnologica (Mexican Index), which is promoted by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT) of Mexico. We put emphasis on the conditions established in order to include journals in this new index: original contributions in the contents, format, periodicity, distribution policies, and organism responsible for the editorial process. We discuss also matters concerning finances and the possible merge of journals in related research areas, It is concluded that the creation of the Mexican Index will help to improve the international impact and visibility of the Mexican scientific journals.
