Abstract:	Hydrolysis of a saponin from the latex of Sapium biloculare (Wats.) Pax yielded the corresponding sapogenin and xylose. The structure of the sapogenin was established by spectroscopy. A bioassay was carried out to ascertain the effect of the sapogenin on "Guppy" fish.
