Mollusks are very important in the southeast of the Gulf of Mexico and this is an analysis about (he taxonomy and geographical and estratigraphical distribution, ecological aspects and socioeconomical situation of pelecypods from Campeche Bay. Presence, frequency and estimative abundance about these organisms are commented for the study area continental shelf. Identified species are infaunal or epifaunal benthic forms which represent the mast abundant mollusks. About 85% of collectedpelecypods live in sandy or mud with sand or mud with clay bottoms where they constitute conspicuous communities. Some of them are facultative species due to their capacity for living in different water salinity conditions. On the basis of their abundance and socioeconomically interest mast important species are Cadakia orbicularis, Anodontiaalba, Lucinapectinata, Trachicardiummuricatum, Atrinarigida, Rangia cuneata, Rangia flexuosa, Macocallistamaculata and Chione interpupurea.
