dc.description.abstract | Arching is studied experimentally and theoretically in a quasi two dimensional system. A model based on a stochastic coupled map lattice is proposed to characterize arching in a vertical and planar stack of similar beads. The model is solved numerically, and some rigorous results are derived for the discrete and continuum versions. We show that arching is generic and describe its main features. | en_US |
