dc.description.abstract We study the ground-state configurations of dipolarly interacting particles on a square lattice by applying a method of searching among all periodic arrangements for that of minimum energy. Our results explain the phases observed for alkali adsorption on FCC(100) transition metals and also some intriguing absences. en_US
