Abstract:
The present work documents the occurrence of Equisetum in the Upper Pliocene deposits of Central Mexico, describing and comparing fossil taxa with modern specimens. All taxonomic characters suggest a close affinity to the modern species Equisetum myriochaetum Schldl. et Cham. This work, which records the first Upper Pliocene occurrence of Equisetum in Central Mexico, confirms the wide distribution of the genus in high latitudes and more humid climates.
